PLEASE CALL ON MONDAY ONLY!!!
Not only is it a world that the vast majority of us don’t live in, it’s a world few of us can even imagine. The life of a rockstar. Anyone can conjure up images of sex and drugs and Rock and Roll, but the extent to which some take it is beyond the average person’s wildest dreams. Mix thousands of screaming, adoring fans with the inevitable huge sums of money that come with true superstar status with copious amounts of drugs and alcohol and a lot of boring downtime on the road and the results are as predictable as the sun rising in the east. Entertainers, especially rockers, surely must be the reason that rehab centers became the huge industry it is today. You might think you know what the truly bacchanalian, decadent, hedonistic lifestyle some lead might be like, but until you read the books each of our guests on the next ROCKLINE have written you really don’t have a clue. As it states on the cover of the book “Slash”, co-written by the guitar hero along with Anthony Bozza, “It seems EXCESSIVE…but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen”. Oh, it happened all right. Long before Guns N Roses blew up and became one of the best and most famous bands in Rock history, Marc Canter befriended the band, and Slash in particular, and he had the smarts and the wherewithal to begin documenting the whole unbelievable, incredible journey. Marc, along with Jason Porath, has written and released “Reckless Road: Guns N Roses and the Making of Appetite For Destruction”. “Appetite…” has to be one of the most apropos album titles in the annals of music. Because along with the debauchery came destruction in all manner and forms, much of which was of a personal nature. It’s nothing short of miraculous that one or more members of GNR didn’t join that great rock band in the sky. Don’t believe for a minute that the five guys who created that album weren’t knockin’ on heaven’s door, most of them more than a few times too.
There is plenty of information regarding the books and more at SlashOnLine.com and RecklessRoad.com But there are two better ways to get more information, buy the books and read them, or plan to join us for the show, either as a listener, or take the plunge and be interactive by calling and asking Slash and/or Marc a question or two. Our number is, and always has been, 1-800-344 ROCK (7625).
Coming up in the world of Rock in the Los Angeles area meant playing a lot of gigs on the famed Sunset Strip, finishing late and heading to a nearby restaurant to grab a bite to eat. For decades the famed Canter’s Deli on Fairfax Avenue, four major streets south of the strip, has been a top choice for many if not most. For Marc, it’s the family business and as a young man he was exposed to all kinds of bands and musicians (he’s now the owner and general manager). Canter’s is open late and is considered to be one of the finest delis in the world, and yes, that includes New York City. It’s worth stopping by for the potato pancakes alone. Bring on the applesauce! Marc and Slash became good friends and Canter had the foresight to start shooting pictures and recording gigs. For his book, he decided to focus on their early shows beginning with their first one on June 6, 1985 and continuing to and through GNR getting signed by Geffen records. One of the coolest aspects of the book is its interactive nature. One can register their copy of the book to access a treasure trove of material, including archived video and audio clips, video interviews from the book and a whole lot more innovative and cool features. Slash’s book is truly tell all, nothing is left out from the women to the drugs to county jail and of course, the music and what great music they made. Speaking of which, we will have plenty of great songs to choose from. Musically alone, this is gonna be a killer show, count on it.
Join us for guitar legend Slash and his best friend Marc Canter on Rock’s original and longest running interactive radio show, ROCKLINE! We’ll be expecting your call on Monday September 29 between 8:30pm PT to 10:00pm PT, or 11:30pm ET to 1:00am ET. You must call on Monday!!! The show will be streamed at RocklineRadio.com at the conclusion of the Wednesday broadcast on our Classic Rock radio station

A Historic Night for Reckless Road at Guitar Center
Real Deal Media, Gibson and Guitar Center combined forces to produce a Sessions event in Northridge, CA with Slash that was off the hook. In addition to the Q&A and performance, Gibson and Epiphone unveiled their Slash Les Paul Goldtop series and Real Deal Media kicked off the Reckless Road launch party.
Slash and Artistdirect editor Rick Florino spoke for about an hour about a range of subjects including Slash's techniques, future plans for Velvet Revolver and, of course, Reckless Road. Marc Canter got up on stage and joined Slash for a few questions about their friendship and the book. Slash played some of his most famous riffs: Sweet Child O Mine, Welcome to the Jungle and Slither.
After the Sessions part of the evening, the Reckless Road launch party kicked off and included a book signing with nearly everyone we interviewed for the book who was a major part of GNR history. Fourteen of us sat down together to sign books for anyone who got in line. We ended up signing several hundred books. It was epic. Among the guests were Steven Adler, Mike Clink, Adriana "Rocket Queen" Smith and former Geffen A&R rep Tom Zutaut.
That's all for now - we're still recovering from that night. Check back in a bit for tons more behind-the-scenes photos, video and stories. A huge "Thank You" to all of the thousands of fans who came out and rocked with us. You are reason for everything we do. Send us your stories and pictures; we'd love to hear from you.
